Tampa, FL Memorial Hospital of Tampa, an HCA West Florida facility, recently announced the acquisition of a second da Vinci Xi® robotic system to add to its rapidly growing surgical services program.  Last year, Memorial became the first hospital in Tampa Bay to perform robotic assisted surgery using the latest da Vinci update.  In July, surgeon Gilman Tyler, Jr., M.D., performed the area’s first gallbladder removal through a one-inch incision using the da Vinci Xi® Single-Site platform.

The additional equipment is part of Memorial Hospital of Tampa’s ongoing $16 million multi-phase expansion and renovation.  Currently under construction, the surgical services expansion is slated to be complete in early 2017. Another phase includes the creation of private patient rooms.   “The addition of the most advanced medical technologies available in our community has resulted in significant growth and a high degree of medical excellence for Memorial Hospital of Tampa,” said Christos Politis, MD, Chief Medical Officer.    “Using the latest surgical techniques, our general surgeons and specialists get patients back on their feet sooner and with less post-surgical discomfort.”

“From gynecologic to weight-loss to general surgery, we offer multiple uses of the robot and our team’s training and experience is unmatched,” said Ward Boston, CEO.  “Our patients are choosing highly-skilled surgeons and a surgical team who is helping to revolutionize minimally invasive surgery.”
